PL BioScience has revealed that Maik W. Jornitz has been appointed to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Maik brings an exceptional depth of technical expertise, strategic leadership, and global industry influence to the board—assets that are well-matched to PL BioScience’s ambitions as it enters a new phase of accelerated development and expands its global footprint.
He currently serves as an Operating Advisor at one of our lead investors, AVANT BIO, where he focuses on supporting strategic growth and operational scaling for high-potential life science portfolios.
Nearly Four Decades of Bioprocess Leadership
Maik’s career is defined by transformative leadership, venture scaling, and deep subject matter expertise in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. In addition to his active role within the AVANT BIO team and as the Founder and Principal Consultant of BioProcess Resources LLC, his industry footprint spans major milestones:
- Sartorius: Spent 26 years in key leadership roles, rising to Senior Vice President for Global Product and Marketing Management Bioprocess.
- G-CON Manufacturing Inc.: Spent 10 years building, leading, and successfully navigating the commercial sale of the company.
- Global Industry Frameworks: Served as the former Board Chair of the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), a leading global provider of science, technology, and regulatory information. He has also been regularly recognized on prestigious industry honors like The Medicine Maker Power List.
Maik holds an M.Eng. in Bioengineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany, has authored multiple landmark reference textbooks on biopharmaceutical filtration, and lends his guidance to several prominent advisory bodies across the biotechnology space.
